Body of missing 9-year-old girl found in canal

The body of a 9-year-old female student has been recovered from a canal in the Ridimaliyadda area in Mahiyanganaya.

Police said that the body was found during a search carried out following a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents stating that she had not returned home from school yesterday (17).

The body was discovered in a canal located around one-and-a-half kilometers away from her home. 

The cause of death has not been ascertained yet while Mahiyanganaya Police is conducting further investigations.
