Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs Palitha Thewarapperuma, who is currently staging a protest fast in Mathugama, says he will leave the government if there is no response to his demands within the day.

“If a decision is not received within today, we will leave the ‘Yahapalanaya’ government,” he said, speaking to reporters.

The Deputy Minister and parents of the 10 students denied admission to a school in the area commenced a protest on Monday (27) in front of the Mathugama Zonal Education Office.

Thewarapperuma and several others launched a protest fast yesterday due to authorities failing to respond to their demands.

The protest fast continued today as the deputy minister accused the Western Province Education Minister and the Mathugama Zonal Education Director of ignoring the issue.

Thewarapperuma said if all else fails he would ask even former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to resolve the matter.
