SC rejects Wimal’s petition

July 28, 2016   05:17 pm

The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition filed by MP Wimal Weerawansa seeking an order to halt an investigation launched against him by the Bribery Commission.

The petition has alleged that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption conducts a “biased” investigation against Weerawansa in a disproportionate assets case, Ada Derana reporter said.

The decision was made when the petition was taken into consideration before a bench headed by Justice Priyasad Dep this morning (28).

While informing there is no “illegality” in the investigation, the State Council has apprised the Court that the MP could inform the commission if there are any objections with respect of the investigation.
