The central committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided to take disciplinary action against a group of former SLFP Local Government members from the Kurunegala district.

The former local councillors were responsible for setting fire to letters sent from the party notifying of interviews being held for selecting candidates for the next Local Government election, during a press conference.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the SLFP Central Committee which was held tonight with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

In addition to this, action to be taken with regard to the party members who participated in the protest march organised by the Joint Opposition was also reportedly discussed at the meeting.
