The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has decided to again summon the newly appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy.
The Chairman of the COPE JVP MP Sunil Handunetti said that Coomaraswamy will be asked to appear individually before the committee in connection with the investigation on treasury bonds probe.
Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran’s tenure was ended on June 30 while civil society groups, trade unions, opposition politicians and SLFP Ministers have opposed the extension of his term. Mahendran, a Singapore national of Sri Lankan origin, was accused last year of leaking inside information to his son-in-law’s firm, allegedly allowing it to make millions of dollars in profits from a central bank bond auction.
