Sri Lankan national holding Indian passport held in Madurai

A Sri Lankan national was arrested in Madurai on Thursday while he was trying to fly to Sri Lanka on an Indian passport, which he had secured by producing forged documents.
Police said the Sri Lankan national, Sreedhaya, 38, came to India in 2008 after his parents died. His sister, Kamalavathi, was working in a rubber estate in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, and he stayed with her.
On Thursday, he was trying to go to Sri Lanka on a Mihin Lanka flight. He was stopped by immigration officials as he spoke a Sri Lankan dialect of Tamil.
When he was questioned, the man told officials that he was a Sri Lankan national, had married an Indian woman and was living in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
He was taken to Perungudi police station, where a case was registered against him under the Passport Act and The Foreigners Act.
An officer in Perungudi police station said, “This was the first time that he was using the passport, which he had secured by forging documents in Karnataka.”
