The Colombo Magistrate’s Court Monday rejected a bail application filed on behalf of former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman who has been remanded for allegedly misusing a state vehicle.
Karuna Amman was remanded until 07 December after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate earlier. Former Deputy Minister was arrested as he arrived at the FCID to give a statement on the allegation of misusing the state vehicle on 29 November. He was questioned at the FCID for several hours before the arrest was made.
Amman was a former rebel leader who virtually ruled the Eastern province when he was part of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He broke away from the LTTE in March 2004 and later entered mainstream politics.
