AG withdraws indictment against Basil in Divi Neguma case

The Attorney General Tuesday withdrew the indictments filed against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and another official in the case against them for allegedly misappropriating funds of the Divi Neguma Department, Ada Derana reporter said.


Accordingly, Basil Rajapaksa and former Director General of the Divineguma Department, R.R.K. Ranawaka were discharged by the Colombo High Court, the reporter added.


The former Minister and the other officials were initially remanded by the Kaduwala Magistrate’s Court earlier. 


Basil Rajapaksa and the other ministry officials were arrested by the police on April 22. They were arrested on charges of alleged misappropriation of funds in the Divi Neguma Department, which came under the purview of the Economic Development Ministry. The court has also released the passports of the accused, reporter said.
