December 31, 2016   07:52 am

State Minister Priyankara Jayaratne has resigned from his post as the State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government.

He had reportedly met with President Maithripala Sirisena last evening (30) to inform of his decision and hand in his resignation.

However, the President had refused to accept the resignation, according to sources.

Attempts made by Ada Derana to contact the state minister for comments on the matter were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile political sources say that several other SLFP Ministers have decided to resign from their respective portfolios.
