Fire on oil tanker completely doused…

The fire erupted in a Panama-registered crude oil tanker, “MT New Diamond” has been completely doused in joint efforts of the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Indian Coast Guard, and the Indian Navy.
The vessel which had been sailing 38 nautical miles off Sangamankanda Point east of Sri Lankan seas caught on fire in an explosion of a boiler in the main engine room, on Thursday (September 03).
Sri Lanka Navy has rescued 22 of the 23 crew members aboard the oil tanker, however, Filipino seaman on board had died in a boiler explosion.
The ship was then towed 40 nautical miles (about 74 km) away from the shore.
Sri Lanka Navy confirmed that there is no danger of the ship leaking oil into the sea.
