NFF MPs cannot act independently in Parliament - Speaker

March 8, 2017   01:42 pm

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed the Parliament that MP Wimal Weerawansa and other NFF MPs cannot be accepted as independent members in Parliament.

This was announced at this morning’s Parliament session, Ada Derana reporter said.

The Speaker has announced that apart from political parties entering the Parliament through polls, no other group can be accepted as an independent group.

Parliament sittings were also adjourned for ten minutes this afternoon as a result of a protest by Joint Opposition members. A tense situation erupted after the Speaker refused to accept the National Freedom Front (NFF) as a separate political party.
