Speaker orders Dinesh to leave Parliament

March 8, 2017   02:29 pm

The Speaker of Parliament today ordered UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardana to leave the House due to unruly behavior, during proceedings.

He was ordered to leave the House under Standing Orders 74. (1), which states that the Speaker shall order members whose conduct is grossly disorderly to withdraw immediately from Parliament during the remainder of the day’s sitting and may direct such steps to be taken as are required to enforce his order.

The decision was taken as Gunawardena continued to hinder proceedings after the Speaker informed the Parliament that MP Wimal Weerawansa and other NFF MPs cannot sit independently in parliament.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya also temporarily  adjourned parliament sittings due to the prevailing atmosphere within the chamber.
