Health workers launch token strike...

October 8, 2021

Health sector workers resorted to a five-hour token strike today (October 08) over several demands. They launched the trade union action against the move to suspend the allowance of Rs. 7,500 given to health workers during the period of COVID-19 pandemic and several other issues. Functions at island-wide hospitals accordingly came to a temporary halt from 7.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon. A total of 44 health trade unions jointly initiated today’s token strike and a series of protests were also staged in front of hospitals across the island.
