Railway Engine Driver Assistants commenced a strike at 12.00 am today (22).

Vice President of the Railway Engine Driver Assistants’ Association, P. K. D. Perera stated that the strike was being conducted to oppose the amendment of the recruitment scheme.

Regardless, the Secretary of the Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union, Indika Dodangoda stated that the strike would not pose a hindrance to the functioning of train journeys.

However, Vice President of the Railway Engine Driver Assistants’ Association, P. K. D. Perera warned that it would be risky to operate trains without the support of railway engine driver assistants.
