Lalith Jayasinghe summoned by the Police Special Investigations Unit

UPDATE (10.45 am): Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe was arrested by the Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) a short while ago, over charges of concealing evidence during the investigation held into a murder involving former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara.

Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe has been summoned by the SIU today(25) to record a statement over allegedly prevaricating evidence during the investigation held into the shooting incident in Kahawatte.

Former Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Premalal Jayasekara was arrested on January 9, 2015  in connection with the shooting incident.

The incident took place at the venue of an election rally of the presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

A political supporter, who was engaged in decorating the election stage, was wounded in the shooting and succumbed to injuries in hospital. 

On January 5,2015 Pelmadulla Magistrate issued arrest warrant on Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councillor Aruna Nilantha and Kahawatta Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Vajira Darshana in connection with the shooting incident.
