Heavy traffic at Town Hall due to anti-SAITM protest

Severe traffic congestion has been reported along the road in and around Town Hall area in Colombo due to a protest march by university students.

Several university student unions including the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) and the Inter University Bhikkhus’ Federation (IUBF) are staging a protest in Colombo demanding that the government shut down SAITM.

The protest march is currently making its way towards Town Hall from near the Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) Theater and is expected to travel towards the Presidential Secretariat. 

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible in order to avoid any inconvenience. 

UPDATE (3.24pm) - The road from Kollupitiya Junction to Galle Face Roundabout has been closed for traffic due to the protest against SAITM. 

Ada Derana reporter said that heavy traffic congestion has been reported in the Kollupitiya area due to the protest.
