Verdict on case against Wimal issued on Nov 12

The verdict of the amended complaint against MP Wimal Weerawansa and five others filed by the Cinnamon Gardens Police will be issued on November 12, as ordered by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

When the complaint was taken up today (17), Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the court that an amended complaint will be submitted against the six suspects of the case including MP Wimal Weerawansa.

The initial complaint had been filed against seven individuals; however, the amended complaint will be against six suspects, according to Cinnamon Gardens Police.

Taking note of the request made by the police, Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake, ordered to issue an order regarding the amended complaint on November 12.

A complaint had been filed against seven individuals for obstructing traffic and causing inconvenience to the public during a protest campaign in 2016 against the visit of former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, outside the UN Office.

The suspects of the case include JNP Leader MP Wimal Weerawansa, Deputy Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake, Parliamentarians Jayantha Samarawera, Piyasiri Wijenayake, JNP Spokesman Mohamed Muzammil and Western Province Councilor Roger Seneviratne.
