Chief Justice Priyasad Dep to retire today

Chief Justice Priyasad Dep, who is currently serving as the 45th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, is slated to retire from his position with effect today (12).

He was appointed to the position on 2nd March 2017 while he has been serving in the judicial service for over 40 years.

Chief Justice Priyasad Dep joined the Attorney General’s Department as a State Counsel in 1978 and he was promoted to the Senior State Counsel position in 1989.

Later, in 1996, he was appointed as the Additional Solicitor General and promoted as the Solicitor General in 2007.

In 2011, Priyasad Dep was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge.

Meanwhile, the new Chief Justice, who will be taking over from Justice Priyasad Dep, is to be announced today (12).
