Civilians killed in war remembered at Vellamullivaikkal

A commemoration was held at Vellamullivaikal today (18), in memory of the Tamil civilians who were killed in the war.

Vellamullivaikal was used as a human shield by the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran during the final battle of the war.

The commemoration, organized by the Tamil National Alliance and the student union of the University of Jaffna, was held at Vellamullivaikkal beach.

Police officers had been deployed to the event to beef up the security at the site.
