NBRO issues landslide warning for 8 districts

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings a total of 8 districts – Galle, Matara, Matale, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Kegalle, Colombo, Kurunegala and Kandy.

Accordingly, landslide warnings were issued for the following areas as the rainfall within the past 24 hours has exceeded 75mm:

Galle District: Akmemana, Elpitiya, Niyagama, Nagoda, Thawalama and Neluwa Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas

Matale District: Ukuwela Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas

Ratnapura District: Eheliyagoda, Kuruwita and Ayagama Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas

Kalutara District: Agalawaththa, Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala, Walallawita, Horana, Ingiriya and Mathugama Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas

Matara District: Pitabeddara and Kotapola Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas

Colombo District: Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas

Kegalle District: Aranayake Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas

Kandy District: Gangaihalakorale and Thumpane Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas

People in these areas are advised to be watchful on the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures and ground subsidence, if the rain continues.


In the meantime, as the rainfall within the past 24 hours has exceeded 100 mm, the NBRO has urged the people living in following areas to be ready to evacuate to a safe location if the need arises:

Galle District: Baddegama Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas

Ratnapura District: Pelmadulla, Rathnapura, Elapatha, Nivithigala, Kalawana and Kiriella Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas

Kurunegala District: Polgahawela Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas


Communities are advised to follow the instructions given by the NBRO and Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
