Notorious drug dealer Kanjipani Imran’s father has been stabbed by three individuals near his house in Maligawatta last evening (17).

The incident had been recorded in CCTV cameras fixed near the scene of the crime and the footage has now been released to the media.

The 65-year-old, who sustained several cut wounds, is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) of the Colombo National hospital. His condition is not critical, according to hospital sources.

One of the three suspects – a 45-year-old resident of Anuradhapura - was apprehended by the Maligawatta Police yesterday, along with the three-wheeler and a sharp weapon they used for the crime.

Maligawatta Police are carrying out further investigations into the matter.
Kanjipani Imran is currently under remand custody at the Boossa Maximum-Security Prison.

The victim had also been under remand custody in 2019 over an attempt to smuggle in 2 mobile phones to an imprisoned Kanjipani Imran by concealing them among food containers.
