Two prison guards interdicted for giving mobile phones to drug convicts

Two prison guards have been interdicted and been handed over to the Police for providing mobile phones to inmates, stated the Commissioner General of Prisons.

The relevant officers had been serving attached to the Matara and Mahara Prisons.

Reportedly, they had provided drug convicts with mobile phones.

The prison guard from the Mahara had been caught by prison officials while attempting to hand over 03 mobile phones to an inmate while the interdicted officer from Matara prison has been charged with a similar offense.

They have been handed over to the Sri Lanka Police for onward investigations, according to the Commissioner-General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniaya.
