21-year-old arrestee dies at Ragama hospital

A suspect arrested in connection of a robbery is reported dead after being admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered an investigation into the death of the 21-year-old.

The male arrested on October 11 had been admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital upon a sudden illness.

Accordingly, the investigations are being carried out under the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of the Colombo Equestrian Division, DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The Police Media Spokesman further stated that the law will be strictly enforced against the Pugoda Police OIC or the relevant officers if the investigations reveal that they had acted improperly in the handling of the suspect.
