The Attorney General has issued instructions to grant bail to suspects currently under remand and file charges against them.

This decision has been taken to reduce the overcrowding within prisons, in the view of the prevailing COVID-19 outbreak in the remand prisons.

The Attorney General Dappula de Livera has issued these directives to the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne, said Coordinating Officer of the Attorney General State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne.

These directives have been issued at the request of Minister of Justice Ali Sabry made to the Attorney General.
