Culinary Art 2010 presented by the Chefs Guild of Lanka is one of the prestigious events in the culinary calendar. Sri Lanka’s biggest food and hotel show concluded yesterday after 4 days of taking centre stage at the BMICH. Hilton Colombo – Sri Lanka’s Leading Business Hotel awarded at the World Travel Awards bagged yet another award as The Most Outstanding Hotel Team and The Most Outstanding Culinary Team as well as the hotel who won the most number of gold medals. The total number of medals won for Hilton Colombo was 51.

Chefs from various hotels, bakeries and restaurants participated in this 4 day event. First started in 1993 and held every other year, the competition is acclaimed to be the most eagerly awaited event. This year there were 1650 food entries with 1100 chefs representing 121 hotels from all over the country. 

Some of the awards won by the Hilton Colombo was the Most Outstanding Chef by Viraj Perera, Most Outstanding Apprentice – Rachithri Fernandopulle, The Most outstanding Mixologist – Michelle Wahid, The Most Outstanding Apprentice Hot Cooking Live – Rachithri Fernandopulle, Best Chef Hot Cooking Live – Viraj Perera, Best Chef 5 course set dinner – Viraj Perera, Most Outstanding Wedding Cake – Buddhini Wijethunga, Best Butter Sculpture – Daminda De Silva, Most Outstanding awards for modern Sri Lankan cuisine – Hilton Colombo Team

 (Raja Selvanayagam, Rohana Kumarasiri and Ruchira Dhansu), The Most Outstanding Dilmah High Tea Presentation – Hilton Colombo Team (Harsha De Silva, Renata Schroter and Janaka Bandara). Chamaka Perera, Buddhini Wijethunga, D. D. Upali, Kusum Fernando also won gold medals for various catergories.

Apart from the above Michelle Wahid and Chamila Maliduwa both won two gold medals in the “Arrack Cocktailâ€� competition whilst Suramya Rupasinghe secured a Silver medal. Michelle also won another gold medal for “Scan Sunquickâ€� Best Mocktail, a silver for “Best Beer Cocktail Competition and another silver for “Creative Coffeeâ€� competition. Suramya Rupasinghe secured a Bronze for Best Beer Competition and a Silver for Creative Coffee Competition whilst Chamila Maliduwa won  2 bronze medals for the above two categories.

The Chefs Guild of Lanka is Sri Lanka’s Association of chefs who are committed towards the professional development of all chefs and cooks in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Chefs are known worldwide for their culinary talents and Hilton Colombo’s Executive Chef Rohan Fernandopulle is the only Asian to be in the Club des Chef des Chefs known to be an exclusive club for the greatest of chefs from around the world.
