
Hilton Colombo steals the show at Culinary Art 2010

Culinary
Art 2010 presented by the Chefs Guild of Lanka is one of the prestigious events
in the culinary calendar.
Chefs
from various hotels, bakeries and restaurants participated in this 4 day event.
First started in 1993 and held every other year, the competition is acclaimed to
be the most eagerly awaited event. This year there were 1650 food entries with 1100
chefs representing 121 hotels from all
over the country.
Some
of the awards won by the Hilton Colombo was the Most Outstanding Chef by Viraj
Perera, Most Outstanding Apprentice – Rachithri Fernandopulle, The Most
outstanding Mixologist – Michelle Wahid, The Most Outstanding Apprentice Hot
Cooking Live – Rachithri Fernandopulle, Best Chef Hot Cooking Live – Viraj
Perera, Best Chef 5 course set dinner – Viraj Perera, Most Outstanding Wedding
Cake – Buddhini Wijethunga, Best Butter Sculpture – Daminda De Silva, Most
Outstanding awards for modern Sri Lankan cuisine – Hilton Colombo Team
(Raja Selvanayagam, Rohana Kumarasiri and
Ruchira Dhansu), The Most Outstanding Dilmah High Tea Presentation – Hilton
Apart
from the above Michelle Wahid and Chamila Maliduwa both won two gold medals in
the “Arrack Cocktail” competition whilst Suramya Rupasinghe secured a Silver
medal. Michelle also won another gold medal for “Scan Sunquick” Best Mocktail,
a silver for “Best Beer Cocktail Competition and another silver for “Creative
Coffee” competition. Suramya Rupasinghe secured a Bronze for Best Beer
Competition and a Silver for Creative Coffee Competition whilst Chamila
Maliduwa won 2 bronze medals for the
above two categories.
