USA’s Hillary Clinton and Britain’s David Miliband are the people from behind who are pulling the strings for United Nations Secretary General Ban-ki Moon, said Environment Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka this morning.
Addressing a media briefing Minister Ranawaka said that the elections scheduled for June this year in Britainhas made Mr. Miliband desperate for the Tamil as well as Sinhala voters domiciled in Britain.
However, Mr. Ranawaka urged the Sri Lankans in Britain, both Tamils and Sinhalese to teach Miliband and the rest a good lesson by not voting for them this time round.
Commenting on the role of international and local non-governmental organization (INGO/NGO), Champika Ranawaka said that some organizations were receiving considerable amounts of funds and the State had no control or information regarding them. Some of these NGOs and INGOs have been accused of supporting the separatist Tigers.
Any person or organization receiving foreign currency above the stipulated amount has to inform the Central Bank of Sri Lankawithin 90 days of such receipt.
“The government of India has not given a free hand to INGOs and NGOs in the country. They are closely monitored. In Sri Lanka too this should be followed strictly,” said the Environment Minister.
