Sri Lanka to purchase 100 metric tons of oxygen from India

August 14, 2021   11:09 am

The Sri Lankan government has decided to purchase 100 metric tons of oxygen from India next week for COVID-19 treatment centres.

These purchases to continue further if needed, the Secretary to the Ministry of Health stated.

With the alarmingly rapid spread of Delta COVID variant on the island and the spike in oxygen-dependent patients, the demand for supplemental oxygen has increased exponentially.

Medical experts also warned that COVID infections and deaths reported in the country could surge due to the increasing number of oxygen-dependent patients.
