Ken Sunquist, Assistant Deputy Minister
(Asia & Africa) and Chief Trade Commissioner will visit Sri Lanka on May 10 to hold discussions with senior
government officials, personalities in the corporate sector and civil society, the
Canadian High Commission in Colomboconfirmed today.
Among the
expected topics of discussion will be matters of bilateral interest including political
issues and the various commercial opportunities for Canadaand Sri Lanka.
Mr. Sunquist joined Canada’s Trade
Commissioner Service in 1973 and has served abroad in Kingston, Belgrade, San Francisco, Seoul and Beijing. From
1998-2001, he served as Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.
Mr. Sunquist has held a number of senior positions in the Canadian
Government, including Director General, Trade Communications
Bureau, Coordinator, Trade Development Policy Secretariat, Director
General, Trade Commissioner Service Operations, Assistant Deputy Minister,
International Business, Assistant Deputy Minister, World Markets
Branch and Assistant Deputy Minister, Global Operations.
Mr. Sunquist is a
member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Commercial Corporation, the
Board of Governors of the National Quality Institute and the Board of Directors
of the Canada-China Business Council, the Estey Centre for Law and Economics in
International Trade, the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, and the Board of
the Trade Facilitation Office.
