Fonseka to be indicted

The Attorney General will be filing indictment over the charges against Rtd. Gen. MP Sarath Fonseka on the basis that he has committed offences under the emergency regulations by giving a statement to the Sunday Leader newspaper that the Defence Secretary ordered the military to kill the LTTE leader who surrendered with white flags.

 

 

The Attorney General claimed that the statement caused an upheaval amongst the public.

 

 

The Colombo Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajarathne said that since Fonseka was a soldier who successfully fought the war and hence this case will be given priority.

 

 

The next date for the hearing was set on May 26.
