Heads of Local Government councils who fail to assist in the eradication of dengue will not be given nominations in future elections, said Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
Issuing this warning to party members, Minister Sirisena said that they should not forget that in addition to his post as Health Minister, he was also the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
The Minister said that Local Government polls are to be held very soon and that the fight against dengue will take prominence for heads of Local Government institutions to be considered for them to gain nominations.
Most of the Local Government chairmen are from the SLFP, reminded Maithripala Sirisena while addressing the crowd during the opening of a new building at the Puttalam-Chilaw hospital.
The Health Minister added that the Local Government institutions should be in the forefront while fighting dengue or other diseases, and raising public awareness on practicing cleanliness and good hygiene.
