Court order on complaint filed over Diana Gamage’s identity documents

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued notice on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit facts on November 10 regarding the investigations into a complaint on the passport, birth certificate and the National Identity Card (NIC) of State Minister Diana Gamage.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe issued the notice after considering the facts submitted through a motion filed by a group of attorneys including Attorney-at-Law, Gunaratne Wanninayake.

Presenting the facts before court when the motion was taken up today (Oct 27), Wanninayake stated that a complaint has been received by the CID that the identity documents of State Minister Diana Gamage including her passport, birth certificate and NIC are fake.

The attorney further pointed out that the CID has not submitted any report regarding its progress, although it has presented facts before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in 2021.

The CID has acted in a way that the case is suppressed since it was uncovered during the investigations that the relevant identity documents of State Minister Diana Gamage were fake, he alleged.

In addition, Wanninayake requested the court to inquire from the officials of CID whether the State Minister has dual citizenship with UK citizenship, and the progress of investigations so far into this illegal act.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate, who examined the case file at the time, also mentioned in the open court that no further facts have been reported regarding the investigations related to this complaint.

Then the relevant notice was issued by the Chief Magistrate to the Officer-In-Charge of the concerned investigation division of the CID to present the facts before the courts on November 10.
