Veteran ‘adman’ Melville Assauw dies

Melville Assauw, a veteran in the advertising field of Sri Lanka and pioneer of Mel Ads passed away and his funeral will be held at the General Cemetary, Kanatte on Saturday evening.

His remains are lying at his residence at Wattegedara Road, Maharagama, sources close to his family said.


Melville or ‘Mel’, as he was called affectionately, was at the forefront of advertising for nearly four decades. Mel Ads has been at the forefront of advertising in Sri Lanka.

Melville Assauw later opened his PR arm, ‘Prism’, specialising in Corporate Image Management, as a Brand Building entity.


Mel Ads also pioneered the idea and concept for the first-ever Sri Lankan teledrama ‘Dimuthu Muthu’ and the event ‘Sportsman and Sports Queen of the Year’.
