Two teenagers are reported missing after drowning while bathing in the Walawe River near the Weliharanawa Pumphouse in Balangoda on Tuesday evening (April 11).

The two schoolboys, aged 15 and 17 years, are reportedly residents of Elle-Arawa and Benkiyawatta in Balangoda.

A search and rescue operation is currently underway to discover the two missing kids.

The unfortunate incident comes just a day after two other kids drowned after being swept away by strong water currents.

One of them was a 17-year-old who had been bathing near the Polgolla Dam in Kandy along with three other teens. He was rescued and rushed to the hospital, however, he was later pronounced dead.

In a separate incident, a 12-year-old boy, who was bathing in the Walawe River in the Sewanagala area with his father and the younger sibling, died after drowning.

UPDATE: The bodies of the two teens, aged 15 and 17 years, who were reported missing after drowning have been recovered in a search operation on Wednesday (April 12).
