After the return to his own ‘mahagedara’ (birthplace) he is now leading a satisfied life. He does not aspire to high positions and he is only like an apprentice, said Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake.
A visibly mellowed former United National Party (UNP) National Organiser, Assistant Leader and a one time Chandrika Kumaratunga loyalist in the People’s Alliance (PA) government, Mr. Dissanayake, participating at the TV Derana talk show ‘360’, said that he did not have elaborate plans towards leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) or the government.
He said that his singular aim was to make life easier for those taking up higher education. When they are directed towards the correct path, they will automatically provide the leadership and guidance to others. That will make the life of the authorities easier as well, added S.B. Dissanayake.
Asked about any possibilities of his losing or being removed from his Higher Education portfolio, Minister Dissanayake said that he was confident that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was satisfied with his work. “If he is not satisfied he will remove me. I don’t think it has reached that point yet,” a smiling Minister told the ‘360’ host Dilka Samanmali.
S.B. Dissanayake, who was once a Sports Minister as well, said that when the President offered the Higher Education Ministry to him, he had reposed utmost confidence on Mr. Dissanayake and said that he could do it.
