One person injured in police fire after grenade attack attempt; another arrested with ammunition

One of the two persons on a motorcycle has been injured and hospitalised when police opened fire while he tried to hurl a foreign-made hand grenade at a mobile patrol when checking at Akmeemana, Galle. 

Police Media Division stated that the incident that took place last night (June 10) when two police officers attached to Akmeemana Police on mobile motorcycle patrol were trying to inspect two individuals.

At the time, one of the two individuals had fled away, while the other one tried to hurl the hand grenade.

However, the suspect who sustained injuries at the incident, has been admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, while the other suspect was later apprehended along with 105 rounds of T-56 ammunition in his possession.
