VIDEO: Uni students to protest infront of Police HQ
July 28, 2010 10:19 am
The students of University of Ruhuna will begin a protest in front of the Police Headquarters, said convener of Inter University Student Council, Udul Premarathne. The protest march is scheduled to start at 1.00 p.m. today from the University Grants Commission.
The protest is organized to force the Police to arrest the police officers who are said to be responsible for the alleged murder of a fellow university student, Premarathne said.
Speaking to Ada Derana, he further added that there have been disturbances to the buses transporting students from the University of Ruhuna and the University of Sabaragamuwa.

All these tears and dramas are backed by JVP. They are destroying young lives as they did in 89-90 period. All these Hench spokesmen will be JVP parliamentarian one day. Unless Srilankans will understand this and wipe off JVP led councils there won´t be free education for SL.

Sri Lanka will never be able to move forward as long as these JPV clowns and their blind supporters exist. I remember when I was an undergraduate student in early 80’s these trouble makers were doing the same damage. They do not value the opportunity they have been given to have free education. I am certain that Sri Lanka is the only country that provides free education. Students in other countries have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars, pounds, marks or franks to obtain a degree. They have to work in the weekends and at night to earn few bucks to pay for the education. As they know the value of education, they never have strikes or protests. They do not have "ragging". As a person who has experience in both Sri Lankan universities and foreign universities, I believe that the following action should be taken: (A). Inter University Student Council must be banned. (B). after the GCE (AL), there should be a aptitude test followed by an interview to determine the genuine intentions of the students. This is practiced by many overseas universities. This process prevents the chance of JVP clown with low IQ going into the universities. In fact low IQ clowns of big businessmen and brainless pollies also will be filtered out. Only the clever and genuine students from the remote areas and the cities will get the opportunity. (C). Students must sign a legal contract before undertaking the studentship and participation in strikes must be made a breach of the contract which will allow forcing the trouble makers out of the universities. (D). “Ragging” must be made a punishable offence and those who commit this crime must be imprisoned. (E). Private universities must be started with the affiliation of other prestigious universities in the world. This is a practice in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and many other Asian countries.

The way things are happening - students blaming police, IGP saying its a natural death, then IGP saying its due to beating by ´bassa´, the mother saying it was police , then again the mother saying it was ´bassa´ - i think by the end of the investigation the verdict will be that this student has committed suicide !

Agree, White van is the best option for Naki Udula and Anthare leadership. They are ruining the SL university education. Specially since there is a new batch now, they will rag and take the new students forcibly to these protests organised and funded by the JVP. If few more students die, Anthare and JVP will jump with jou, that is their aim now, to get their protest attacked by police. IF no one dies, they will hit few students and kill (like how Anthare "Bassa" did). Dear PResident, Defence Secretary and Minister SB, please wipe out these terrorists too.

Udula will end up in parliament for JVP (just like Vijitha Herath, Bimal Rathnayaka etc). Fellow Anthare leaders will end up in provincial councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas. Poor students will end up nowhere! Most will fail the exams and if not will just pass at the end, but without any knowledge (as their first priority is protests rather than education). Then no one will give them jobs. Then the JVP will again take them to streets. JVP depends on poor uni students, and they are doing everything to keep the system going.

These students thugs in the so called Inter University Student Federation are JVP activists who want some more deaths to promote their sinister agenda. Sri Lanka may be the only country that allows this kind of stupidity in the Universities. We must not forget that same modus operandi was used by JVP terrorists leading up to the 1988-1990 carnagre in Sri Lanka. The government has to nip this JVP attempt in the bud in order to prevent another cycle of terrorism. These jerks have to understand that this so called Inter University Student Federation has no legal status what so ever to carry out demonstrations or any other form of protest in Sri Lanka. The undergradutes in Sri Lanka are a privileged lot and receive all benifits for higher education from government through tax payers money. The so called free education is not actually free and we must always remember that all the Sri Lankans are paying by way taxes to sustain the privileged status of undergraduates in Sri Lankan Universities. As someone very correctly pointed out it is hightime that we Sri Lankans have to change the criteria of selecting students for higher studies. There should be a mechanism in place to weed out all the potential student thugs when selecting students for universities. Perhaps, by providing a "free education" from kindergarten to University level, we have created a sense of entitlement among students.

This stupid Idiots dont know the value of free educations.Government is spending millions of money for the free education of our country.Recently in a trainning session I participited with different nationalatise I told them that we have education system in our country which gives free education from primary to Unversity level but they did not believe that as all of them have paid for thier education in thier home countries and they were suprised.I still remember that dark era of 88 to 91 (Im 91 A/L) and those days parents did not like to send thier children to Universities due to the bad expierences thay had during that period. At that time being a University Student was a death warrant to a young student and hence most of students who were selected to the Universities did not enter them and found jobs and some of them went out of the country who were capable of spending money on their education.I personaly know so many students who were eligible for universities worked with me in my previous employer. As Dr.Viduruwan said I also have the expierence of studying in foriegn University and I have never come across this type of protest and waist of valubale time which can be spent for thier studies.I do not know what they will expect from this kind of protest by waisting money and time of the country. As per my personal expierence only a university degree is not enough when you are trying to find a job and you should have added qualifications(CIMA/Charterd/cim/IT. etc) if you do not have the expierence in the field, so why cant this stupid idiots (they think when they enter in to the universities they know everything but nothing, thats why i use word IDIOTS) use thier time to add more knowledge and more qualifications during the most important and valubale period ( young age between 20 -30)in once life which cannot be gained again.

To “Ranjan”: Mr. Know-it-all, Ranjan, I am sorry if I hurt your feelings! However, I had to tell the truth as it is and to show the reality to my fellow Sri Lankans as it stands. You are asking me if I know about our “social development strategies” and “indicators”. I am very happy to emphasise that I know those things damn well. It appears to me that the “strategy” you and your clown-lot suggest is to disturb the functioning of the educational institutions in Sri Lanka and deprive the deserving students of their education. What is your social indicator? It appears to me that the “social indicators” for your JVP clowns are “chaos”, “social hatred’, “social backwardness”, and “myopia”. You mentioned about social reality; being a member of the most socially unrealistic gang in Sri Lanka, you have no right to even talk about it. All sensible and patriotic Sri Lankans need an IMMEDIATE stop to the crazy power hungry and traitor activities of the JVP. This senseless gang showed the path of death to at least 50,000 innocent Sri Lankans in 1971. Then they showed the path of death to about 100,000 innocent Sri Lankans in 1980’s. Now, they are trying to do that again, just after the country is back on its correct path since the time of King Gemunu. We have defeated the world’s most dangerous outfit of terrorists, LTTE, amidst the anger, hatred and the jealousy of some of the so called “rich” nations of the West. These countries have been trying to crucify our President and his defence team with the connivance and the support of the traitor Sarath Fonseka, the maniac “hero” of shameless JVP. (They are shameless, because Sarath Fonseka was responsible for the killing of the youth misled by the bloody JVP during the previous insurgency.) You mentioned that the people in Sri Lanka are well ahead in “politics”; you are correct there – that is why the Sri Lankans have rejected JVP utterly and absolutely. Your JVP and Sarath Fonseka survive thanks to the foreign funds that also supported LTTE. As they could not destroy the nation of Sri Lanka and Buddhism in Sri Lanka using their proxy, LTTE, now they have chosen the stupid JVP and SF in that place, as their new proxy. You were talking about personal benefits. You have no right to criticise anyone for that matter! When was the last time you did anything for the country? Most of the patriotic and genuine Sri Lankans like myself, whether they live in Sri Lanka or overseas, do help the country enormously using the hard-earned money. These Sri Lankans do not earn money by bludging like the traitors of your kind. We do work more than twelve hours a day to earn a living. I do not want to list the good Samaritan acts that I do for my country, but you should simply know that we do a whale-of-a-lot, which you lot cannot even imagine in your whole pathetic lifetime. Ranjan, learn a lesson! Do not use your pen for the detriment of the country that you were born, irrespective of what political or religious persuasion you belong to.

July 29, 2010 06:33 am
Dr. Lakputhu, your suggestions are the most sensible and appropriate ones I have seen for a long time. Mr. S B Dissanayake must take them into serious consideration before these jvp idiots destroy the country. Let me add the 6th suggestion: all students who cannot complete their degree within the time allocated (without a genuine reason that can be vouched by a medical doctor, the monk or the priest of the home town and the Grama Sevaka of the home town) must be expelled from the university. They must be banned from representing other university students. They should not have any right to act on university affairs. They should pay back all the money that the Government had to spend for them for their unfruitful education. They should also pay back for the lost opportunity of another deserving student. This is the only way to stop us, the Sri Lankans, becoming a laughing stock to the rest of the world.
