VIDEO: Legal provision allows govt. to grant amnesty to any offender - Keheliya

According to the legal provisions of the country any offender if he is cooperating with the government could be used as a witness and given amnesty, Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said today. He said this when queried on the legal background of the arrest and detention behind former LTTE arms procurer Kumaran Pathmnanathan alias KP.
However Keheliya stated that he is not implying that this could happen in the case of KP.
Keheliya added that the same force that aimed to destroy Sri Lanka once is being used for the benefit of the country.

Sure thing my friends. In a country where a wife of a Minister who was sentenced to death got the sentence commuted to life imprisonment and then subsequently "PARDONED" and roaming on the streets, if KP is given amnesty no one would be surprised. Coming colour no good.

How can it is possible to grant pardon to terrorists like KP, Karuna, Daya Master etc who planned and killed thousands of brave soldiers, children, women by sending suicide bombs, road-side bombs, mortars etc. But in a country, where a person who imprisoned for insulting the court was given pardon and appointed to dicipline universities and a person who found guilty of illegal transactions given pardon and made highest post in the treasury, anything can happened. Those who liberated the country and those who sacrified the life for the country are imprisoned for nothing.Anything can happened if the king wishes.

I can´t believe a responsible Minister making this kind of statements although every Sri Lankan understand that any criminal or corrupted person can get amnesty if he/she extend support to the government. Government makes hero a traitor or makes traitor a hero. What an example for the criminals? You will find all these only in the Miracle of Asia.

If legal provisions allow Govt. to grant amnesty to ANY offender, then it is the donkeys that sit in the parliament who approved such criminal clauses to the laws who are the offenders. For that, only solution is to add another clause to say that donkeys who approve such laws should be hanged in public. Having said that, I wish these politicians would not try to tell that they think from the other side. English law always favours criminals. A murderer or an accessory to murder is someone who should not be let to enjoy life like other law abiding humans because that criminal has taken at least the right of one person´s freedom to enjoy life and a life of suffering for the victim´s family. Are these people speaking from the other end to say these things as everyone knows what these terrorists have done to the country and people? We urgently need someone to put these political jokers in a boat and send back to England with their laws to live in that hell hole. Else, they should release all the criminals now because other crimes are nothing compared to what these barbarians did and put the politicians in jails.

Not the government , its only president. However there should be a transparency. Because international community and donor agencies take their decision in consideration of this type of good governance principles. So Its true any body can be granted an amnesty.. but there should be transparent policy on accused persons.

This is very pathetic situation in SL. A LTTE supporter who ordered 20 SAM missiles to to destroy Kafeer Assault plains in SLAF wa caught in Malaysia, brought to USP prosecuted and sen tensed to life yesterday. KP who ordered billions of worth weapons to kill our brave soldiers and innocent citizens and VIP and Heads of the country have been given VIP treatment at Visumpaya, and now to be pardoned. What a shame. Can this man be called a "Cabinet Minister" of SL? What a shame to Voters? What an insult to voters. Voters in SL are nothing more than slaves. I only pity for our younger generation.

very sad to hear this.i was against with Ponny since he decided to do politics and supported President all the time.but when i heard thai KP can grant amnesty why not Ponny?KP did everything to kill our peolple before he arrested.now he is living in luxury and who command the army living in jail.i never thought that government going to treat KP like this.this is going to be a re-organise a nother LTTE group easily sooner or later.KP deserved to die. this news broke my heart very badly. mervin from london

Guys, think about the case of Angulimala. The important thing is that KP is nor co-operating with the government not only to track down the remaining LTTE international leaders but also to build harmony with the Tamil diaspora. He is moving upwards. But SF is moving downwards. No doubts, SF was a hero, he was a crucial factor in winning the war. But after that, he went on to bring disgrace to the country as well as the forces, just for political reasons. This is the difference. One moving upwards and the other moving downwards. If SF starts moving upwards again, not by joining the government or so, but just by stopping all his actions against the country, he will also be pardoned for sure. The masses will be there for him the day he becomes the good old patriot.

They are in the camps because they carried out the orders of LTTE leaders including KP. This is heart breaking story. Mr. Minister please note that "I" know the whole story behind arresting KP. He was not arrested. After defeating LTTE by SF, KP surrendered in Thailand. Govt. has secret dealings with his black money in foreign banks. What a shame. Hey idiots! War is a combination of military, economical, diplomatic, and political effort. Yes we accomplish military achievement thanks to Gota, the master minder, but the threat is prevalent. There are two ways to deal with KP, hang him and fight with diaspora or use KP to minimize overseas threat. First is one popularly elected by idiots. Second is the hard approach and doable only by a smart person. Because hanging him only leave his dead body. Changing him will deliver good things to society. SF, the most stupid, didn´t change yet to to be pardoned. SF is just like prabha in personality. So, he has to be restrained for the betterment of entire country. Otherwise, US will only need to spend dollars (recall how millions of dollars came to him while he was crying for gov servants salary) to manipulate him to make this country a debacle.
