Former Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Janaka Chandragupta has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the controversial substandard Immunoglobulin import issue, Ada Derana reporter said.

Earlier, Chandragupta had arrived at the CID to provide a statement regarding the matter this morning (18).

On Thursday (Dec. 14), the Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama had declared that the court finds the actions of the former Secretary of the Ministry of Health with regard to the process of purchasing the batch of ‘substandard’ human intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), as suspicious.

Therefore, the Magistrate also ordered that all responsible parties must be arrested and produced before the court irrespective of their positions, for the administration of justice over the providing of substandard medicine to the public.

The CID had recorded a statement from the former Health Secretary regarding the matter in late November as well.
