Multiple vehicles belonging to drug dealers impounded

Nine vehicles worth Rs. 68 million owned by drug dealers have been taken into custody by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Police during a 24-hour operation.

Speaking to the media, Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon vowed that all assets belonging to criminals, which they have acquired using ill-gotten money, would be confiscated.

Inspecting the impounded vehicles at the Illegal Assets Investigation Division in Narahenpita, the Acting Police Chief also vowed to apprehend the criminals who have fled the country to evade arrest. He emphasized that stringent measures would be taken to prevent such escape attempts.

Among the seized vehicles are two vans, three cars, one jeep, one motorcycle, and two tipper trucks.

Sri Lanka Police on Sunday (Dec.17) launched a special island-wide operation titled ‘Yukthiya’ (Justice) to crack down on drug peddling and organized crimes in the country.

Thus far, more than 4,000 arrests have been made during these special drug busts and large consignments of narcotics including heroin, ‘Ice’ and cannabis were also seized.
