Prevailing showery condition expected to ease off from today

The Department of Meteorology says the prevailing showery condition over the island is expected to ease off from today (Dec.20).
Several spells of showers will occur in Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Matale districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts after 2:00 p.m.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces in the morning.
The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankesanturai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island in the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-50 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
