Matara Prison inmate dies of suspected brain fever, 8 others hospitalised

An inmate of the Matara Prison has succumbed to an illness, presumed to be brain fever, Ada Derana learns.

Accordingly, Prisons Commissioner and Media Spokesman Gamini. B. Dissanayake reported that the inmate, who was convicted of murder on 30 August, had succumbed to the illness on Friday (22 Dec.).

Meanwhile, eight other inmates who are currently receiving medical attention, too, are said to be suffering from the same symptoms.

On Friday (Dec.22), the Prisons Department reported that a total of eight were hospitalized due to high fever.
