The All-Ceylon General Ports Employees’ Union says it has called off the work-to-rule campaign which was scheduled to be launched today (Dec.28).

Its members were planning to launch a token trade union action today over their demand concerning salary hikes.

The chief secretary of General Ports Employees’ Union, Niroshan Gorakana mentioned that the union’s members, however, intend to resort to a trade union action after January 09.

On Wednesday (Dec.27), the Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order against the trade unions of the Ports Authority, preventing them from staging a token strike that would disrupt the operations of the Colombo Port.

The court order effectively prohibited the trade unionists from conducting the planned trade union action scheduled for today.
