Kaushalya Nawaratne re-elected as new BASL President

Senior lawyer Kaushalya Nawaratne has secured another term as the President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL). He was re-elected uncontested for the period 2024-2025.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chathura Galhena was elected uncontested as the BASL’s Secretary.

The incumbent BASL’s Secretary Mr. Isuru Balapatabendi is slated to relinquish office upon completion of his term of two years.

The new BASL President and Secretary will be officially inducted at the 50th Convocation of the association, scheduled to be held on March 23, 2024.

Nominations for the posts of President and Secretary of BASL for the year 2024-2025 were accepted on Thursday (Jan.10) by Solicitor General Indika Demuni de Silva, PC.

While Mr. Nawaratne had submitted his nomination papers for the BASL’s presidency seeking a second term, Mr. Galhena had handed in his nomination papers for the post of Secretary.

According to the BASL, Mr. Nawaratne and Mr. Galhena were elected uncontested as there were no other nominations.
