‘Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya’ leader among 5 killed in Beliatta shooting

Leader of the ‘Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya’ (Our Power of People Party or OPPP), Saman Perera, was confirmed to be amongst those killed in the shooting incident reported in Beliatta, Tangalle earlier this morning (22 Jan.).

A shooting incident was reported between 08:30 a.m. and 08:40 a.m. today, when a group of individuals who had arrived in a green colour double-cab had opened fire at a Defender near the Beliatta interchange of the Southern Expressway. 

Four persons were killed at the scene, while another person who was admitted to the Tangalle Hospital with gunshot wounds later succumbed to his injuries, bringing the death toll from the incident to five.
