Those around him were not for his security but to block the media, charged former Army chief Sarath Fonseka while coming out of the Supreme Court after the conclusion of hearing on the petition filed by him challenging the Presidential election.
The former Army commander and Chief of Defence Staff Sarath Fonseka told the media that he was not afraid to face the law.
“We will resort to legal measures to come out of this problem. We will definitely win and establish law and order in the country,” said a defiant Sarath Fonseka.
Personnel from the tight security ring prevented anyone from approaching too close to Sarath Fonseka and several attempts by the Adaderana crew to get a statement proved futile. Finally, when he was about to enter the vehicle that was to take him to Naval Headquarters where he is detained pending Courts Martial, the crew managed to get in a few words from the former Army Commander.
The objections raised on behalf of the respondents to the maintainability of the petition filed by Sarath Fonseka challenging the election of the President was concluded by the Supreme Court today.
The Supreme Court allowed a period of two weeks from today (Sept. 15) for written submissions from the parties concerned. There after the Court will make an order on the matter, said lawyers.
