Man nabbed with Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 10mn

A coordinated operation conducted by the Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF) in Nikawewa of Weli Oya in the dark hours of Tuesday (26), led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of more than 27kg of Kerala cannabis.
The combined search operation was carried out by SLNS Ranweli and SLNS Gotabaya in the Eastern Naval Command with Mullaitivu Police STF in Nikawewa area.
According to the navy, a person roaming in the area had been interrogated on suspicion. This has led to the recovery of 13 parcels of Kerala cannabis from nearby shrubs, based on the information divulged by the suspect.
The Kerala cannabis consignment, which was intended for sale, weighed about 27kg and 185g and its gross street value is believed to be over Rs. 10 million.
The 43-year-old held in this operation was identified as a resident of Nikawewa area. The accused, along with Kerala cannabis was handed over to the Welioya Police for onward legal action.
