Evening thundershowers possible in many areas today

Showers or thundershowers will occur in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Uva and Central provinces and Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Mannar, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. today (20).

Misty conditions are expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

The general public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle in the evening or night.

Winds will be South-westerly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from   Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can be fairly rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
