Second reading debate on ‘Sri Lanka Electricity Bill’ on June 06

The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, has announced that the Parliament is scheduled to convene from the 4th to the 7th of June.

This schedule was confirmed during the Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting held on Tuesday (28), chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, according to the Parliamentary Communications Department.

On Tuesday, June 04, Parliament will begin with Questions for Oral Answers from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Following this, the debate on the second reading of the Women Empowerment Bill will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Afterward, the Private Members’ Bills of Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers of Sri Lanka (Incorporation) and Dadigama Sri Maithri Pragnartha Bouddha Educational Dhaham Sabhawa (Incorporation) will be considered. 

The day will conclude with a Motion at the Adjournment Time (Government) from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, June 05, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., time has been allotted for Questions to be asked from the Prime Minister. This will be followed by Questions for Oral Answers from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The day will also see the approval of regulations published in Extraordinary Gazettes under the Electronic Transactions Act, Civil Aviation Act, and Petroleum Resources Act, without debate. The session will continue with an Adjournment Debate on ‘Issues pertaining to the education sector,’ moved by the opposition, lasting until 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 06, will commence with Questions for Oral Answers from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Second Reading debate on the Sri Lanka Electricity Bill will follow, running from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The day will close with a Motion at the Adjournment Time (Opposition) from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, June 07, the session will begin with Questions for Oral Answers from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This will be followed by debates on several key issues including the second reading of the Public Debt Management Bill, Orders under the Port and Airports Development Levy Act, a Resolution under the Inland Revenue Act related to a convention with Saudi Arabia, and various Orders and Regulations under the Special Commodity Levy Act, Inland Revenue Act, and Welfare Benefits Act, running from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The week will conclude with Questions at the Adjournment Time from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
