Navy seizes narcotics worth over Rs. 9 billion so far in 2024

The Sri Lanka Navy has reported that they have seized over 600 kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) during the time elapsed this year. 

The Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera further stated that the seized drugs, including heroin and ‘Ice’, are estimated to be valued at over Rs. 9,460 million.

In a recent operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended six suspects aboard a local multi-day fishing trawler carrying 131 kg of heroin, valued at over Rs. 3,250 million. The interception took place on June 14 on the high seas off Galle.

The Navy Chief expressed these comments while joining an inspection of the relevant stock of drugs at the Galle Harbor.
