The representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), currently on a visit to Sri Lanka, are scheduled to meet with officials from the Ministry of Energy and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for a discussion.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy, K.T.M. Udayanga Hemapala, stated that the discussions will be held this morning (21).
The discussions are expected to focus on the revision of electricity tariffs and the procedures of the relevant institutions.
The Secretary of the Ministry stated that they expect to prepare the proposal for the electricity tariff revision after obtaining the opinions of the representatives of the IMF as well.
Accordingly, the related proposal is expected to be submitted to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) in the coming days.
On October 24, the CEB had submitted a proposal to the PUCSL regarding the electricity tariff revision.
Although the proposal suggested an overall reduction of 6.6% in electricity tariffs, the PUCSL had later informed that the tariff reduction was insufficient.
Due to this, the PUCSL had informed the CEB to prepare a new proposal and resubmit it to the commission.
